About Nøstebarn
Nøstebarn designs and sells clothes made from untreated wool and a wool/silk blend. We also sell yarn and knitting patterns, cloth nappy systems and lambskins for babies to sleep on. The fact that the wool is untreated means that it has not undergone all the chemical treatment that wool is usually subject to. Our wool is either completely untreated or just dyed using safe dyes. Our primary target group is children. It is particularly important for children that the clothes are made from safe materials and that they allow free movement.
Untreated wool is ideal for children’s clothes, as it is soft and stretchy and at the same time regulates heat so that children don’t become clammy. This means that garments in untreated wool often become firm favourites – the clothes that children want to wear all the time.
Adults are also discovering how comfortable it is to wear clothes made from an untreated wool and wool/silk blend. We have therefore extended our range with clothes for women and men.
Nøstebarn has sold cloth nappies and untreated wool products since 1983. My father, who started the company together with my mother, was a textile engineer who specialised in wool. They started off selling yarn and cloth nappies and later branched out to sell clothes. I took over the company in 1995, and Nøstebarn AS was founded in 2001. As demand has grown, we have increased our product range in line with the principle of providing comfortable clothes for children and adults; clothes that meet our stringent requirements in relation to ethics and environmentally friendly production. We have opened shops in Oslo, Trondheim and Sandvika. Close contact with our customers means that we receive feedback and ideas from them, so that we can continuously develop our products to the advantage of the people that wear them.
